Open Knowledge

“Open the Knowledge” is a call to make knowledge more diverse, equitable, and inclusive sharing histories, stories, and voices often left out. Together, we can open the knowledge, open its power, and open ourselves to a world that’s always changing.

Editathons

Editathons are collaborative events where volunteers come together to create and improve articles on Wikipedia and other open platforms. They help fill knowledge gaps and highlight underrepresented topics, making sure that more people and communities have a voice online. By participating, editors help build a richer, more accurate, and more inclusive record of human knowledge.

Translationathons

Translationathons are special events where volunteers translate articles and resources into different languages. This vital work ensures that knowledge is available to people everywhere, regardless of the language they speak. By breaking down language barriers, translationathons foster understanding, belonging, and access to information for all.

Women in Wiki

Women in Wiki is an initiative dedicated to closing the gender gap in online knowledge platforms. It empowers women to create, edit, and share their stories, making sure their voices, achievements, and perspectives are represented. Through training, support, and collaboration, Women in Wiki promotes a more balanced, inclusive, and diverse digital world for all.

Photowalks

Photowalks invite volunteers to explore their communities with cameras in hand, capturing moments, places, heritage, and culture. These images are then added to open platforms like Wikimedia Commons, making it possible for people around the world to experience and learn from sights and stories that might otherwise be overlooked or lost.

Open Mapping

Open Mapping allows volunteers to contribute to free and open maps by adding and verifying details about neighborhoods, towns, and rural areas. This collaborative effort shines a light on places that are often underrepresented, making maps more accurate and more useful for people, researchers, and organizations across the globe.

Open Education Resources

Open Education Resources (OER) are openly licensed teaching and learning materials shared online for everyone to use. By creating and sharing these resources, volunteers and educators help make quality education available to anyone, anywhere — regardless of location or socioeconomic status — opening up opportunities for lifelong learning.

Wiki Clubs

Wiki Clubs are spaces where people come together to learn, create, and share knowledge. They build connections between volunteers and foster a strong sense of belonging within the Wikimedia movement. Through training, collaboration, and mutual support, Wiki Clubs help people of all ages and interests contribute to a more inclusive and accurate record of human knowledge.
